Synonym(s):
USDA Symbol: ACLO2
USDA Native Status: L48 (N)
Highly branched stems spreading on ground or sprawling over shrubs and bearing erect white flowers standing like miniature trumpets in leaf axils.
During the day, flowers that bloomed the night before are bent like melted candles, and those yet to bloom are held rigidly erect as brownish-green tubes that blend with the foliage. In the cool of evening, new flowers open and flare their white funnel tops, which attract night-flying moths that drink the nectar and pollinate the flowers.
