Abstract
Investigates the morphology, cytology, and crossing compatibility of four species in the Polygonum hydropiperoides complex from the southeastern US. Analysis of morphological characters indicated that P. hydropiperoides and P. opelousanum are not distinct. Chromosome counts for these two species are 2n=40. Fertile hybrids were formed between these two species. Results indicate that P. opelousanum is not a distinct species and should be merged with P. hydropiperoides.Suggested Citation
